Are you a novice to the media industry and wondering if both the terms are similar, same or not? Well, read to explore what the terms are actually and are they really related!
Basically, both are those who do asimilar type of work, but yes they have their own differences. Illustrators are those who possess creativity and the necessary training (for example, they may have trained at one of the skillshare logo design classes). The illustration is the expression of the mind, thoughts, ideas, concepts and emotions. It uses adifferent platform to express itself, may be the traditional sketching form, or using the digital way.
Illustrators do more of commercial work for publishings like comic books, advertising agencies and so on. Their work scope is more than a designer, involving to do drawings, book illustrations, logo designs and so on.
Graphic designers are those who work on design elements and use structures to produce a visualisation to the brand or give amessage of the same for a company, which aims to sell a product or publicise itself.
Graphic designers require a degree or a specialisation course in the graphics side, while the illustrator’s background is different. Having a degree in arts, history would suffice them, with sketching, drawing and painting skills.
Graphic designers need to have more concentration than their counterparts to focus on work like website design and product designing. Since they work on systems, any changes would take sometimes double the time to clear off.
Qualities of a good graphic designer:
Artistic Ability: designers must be able to create designs that are interesting artistically and appealing to the consumers and clients too. The rough illustrations are done using the traditional ways.
Analytical Ability:analysing the designs from the consumer, viewers perspective is very important for the designer. It allows the designer to think in the way a message by the client is conveyed, allows him to work in the better way, examining this own work, think out of the box.
Computer skills: graphic designers use computer software’s and tools to prepare designs. Basic knowledge about the computer applications is a must.
Communication skills: this is very important since the client conveys a message that needs to be analysed and understood and reverted back in case of any changes. You must convey the message very clearly, that’s the business.
